I was introduced to this program via a healthcare case worker at another program that wasn’t trans led. At the time I was in a very depressed dark place: I was dealing with the loss of multiple loved ones, I was just leaving a highly manipulated “friendship,” and I was also in a new city/state with no close family or friends to help me through those times. Even though I relocated with good intentions very soon I realized that the situation was not ideal, and before I could leave on my terms the rug was pulled from under me and I was homeless in a state with no one familiar. My circumstances aided a deeper depression and self sabotaging state which caused me to go in a very quick spiral downward. Despite my situation I received assistance from “SPGH” immediately. I received shelter, something that is so basic yet so fundamental in anyone’s healing process. At the time I was not as grateful as I should have been because I had a very bitter spirit, but with the resources received, and the referrals received I was able to not only get back on my feet but also get counseling services to help re-stabilize my being. We need more trans led programs, we need more leaders of color, because one thing my situation has taught me is that sometimes what’s given isn’t appreciated at the moment, but in hindsight. Thank you sisters for everything!
